Mount Clemens-Clinton-Harrison Journal | Published November 9, 2022 - MOUNT CLEMENS — Changes to recreation programs in Mount Clemens held top billing as Mayor Laura Kropp delivered her 2022 State of the City address at the Cairns Community Center on Oct. 14... Another organization that contributed to the redevelopment of the recreation program was Advancing Macomb, which worked with the city and TCB to provide funding for programs, equipment and facilities.

Providing kids a safe place to grow and play is vital for the health of our communities. When Advancing Macomb learned that an important community center in Mount Clemens had closed because of lack of funding, we went to work. The Cairns Community Center fills an essential gap in the Mount Clemens community as continued disinvestment and shrinking tax bases forced the city to cut back on recreational programming. These cuts put youth sports and recreational activities out of reach for many families.

Macomb Daily - August 31, 2022 The sounds of children having fun after school — learning how to play basketball or just socializing with other kids in the neighborhood — has returned to Cairns Community Center in Mount Clemens. Three-years ago, after the center was forced to close its doors because of a lack of funding and operating partners, Advancing Macomb went to bat for young people in the community who no longer had a place to play.

Advancing Macomb receives grant from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund for Breaking Barriers to Play. The Health Fund’s 2022 grantmaking has officially launched—57 Community Health Impact projects are receiving over $4.5 million in support, with grant awards ranging from $34,000 to $100,000. The grants support health-focused, community-driven initiatives taking place in every region of Michigan.

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan and Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation announced nearly $2 million in grants to 80 organizations through the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Legacy Funds. Since the inception of the funds in 2016, over 385 grants totaling nearly $9.5 million have been awarded. The Advancing Macomb Foundation received a grant for equipment-sharing coalition for youth sports in four Macomb County communities
